THE FIRST CALL

At 8:33 p.m. on Friday, June 20th, we received a call from an unknown number that was untraceable. The voice was of a young, white male in his twenties or thirties. He sounded intoxicated.

The caller said, "I found your dog, I trapped it, I put it in a fight and it lost, and you owe me $400 dollars." When asked, the caller described the dog as "black with white legs and white face markings." He then explained that the dog "got torn up really bad" and that he had taken it to a vet. Subsequent calls to all the 24-hour emergency vets revealed that they had no such reports or dogs in their custody.

The caller was asked to identify his location, which he reported as, "Craig Street, near Fifth Avenue in Oakland." When asked for the vet's name, he appeared to ask someone for their name and stated, "Josh-efowitz, or Josh-u-witz?" A thorough check was made, and no vets with similar names are reported within the region.

There are three possibilties. The first is that this was a prank call. The second is that this man was trying scam us into showing up somewhere in a vulnerable state of mind with $400 dollars in cash so that he or someone could rob us. The third is that he actually did attempt to fight our dog or a similar dog, but that the "vet" he went to was actually a hack vet who sews up fighting dogs. This call was reported to the police.

THE SECOND CALL

At 2:22 p.m. on Saturday, June 21st, we received a call from an unknown number that was untraceable. The voice was of a white male, approximately in his late twenties or thirties. He had a heavy Pittsburgh accent. The caller asked how much the reward was. He was told that a decision about the amount had not been reached. He said, "Thank you" in a disgruntled tone and hung up as I was about to ask whether they had the dog.

THE THIRD CALL

We received a third call in which the caller stated that Mochi had been killed in a dogfight among other horrific details. This caller's number was made available to us via caller ID, and it was reported to the police.

It is imperative that we continue to get sightings so that we can ensure that these sorts of people do not have our dog.

If you have any information pertaining to these calls, please let us know so we can report it to the authorities.
